Through scorching heat, pouring rain and bone-chilling cold, Shelby Meadows spends more than eight hours a day, five days a week, tending to a country club golf course in Winston-Salem, N.C. That means showing up at 6 a.m. and working up to 10 and a half hours mowing the grass and pulling weeds. Other times, it means lugging 20 to 35 pounds of equipment or supplies around. She racks up about five miles a day between all her duties and often works somewhere between 42 and 45 hours a week when all is done.
