Netflix has released first trailer for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, its forthcoming adaptation of August Wilson’s play about the Chicago blues titan. Along with Viola Davis as Rainey, the film features Chadwick Boseman as a trumpeter named Levee. It’s the actor’s final role before his death earlier this year. The movie arrives on December 18. Watch the first trailer below.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom follows Rainey and a group of musicians as they work through a Chicago recording session in 1927. Known as the “Mother of the Blues,” Rainey was one of the first blues artists to record her work. Boseman died of colon cancer at age 43 in August—a diagnosis he kept private for four years.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Octavia Spencer appears in the film.
