Report: NFL Investigating Aaron Rodgers for Halloween Party and Maskless Pressers

Part of the NFL's investigation into the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers reportedly includes the quarterback's decision to attend a Halloween party with teammates.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the league is investigating Rodgers for appearing without a mask during press conferences and for going to the party. The quarterback, who will miss Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs after testing positive for COVID-19, could be fined by the NFL or the Packers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter explained the NFL believes Rodgers and his Packers teammates may have violated rules that limit how many players can congregate outside of the training facility.

Rapoport noted that the league launched an investigation after it became public knowledge Rodgers was unvaccinated. Since the quarterback is not vaccinated, he must isolate for 10 days and can only rejoin the team a day before its Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

"The primary responsibility for enforcement of the COVID protocols within club facilities rests with each club," the NFL said in a statement. "Failure to properly enforce the protocols has resulted in discipline being assessed against individual clubs in the past. The league is aware of the current situation in Green Bay and will be reviewing the matter with the Packers."

Rapoport suggested the Halloween party portion of the investigation "could be more problematic" than the maskless press conferences.

Unvaccinated players are not allowed to gather in groups of four or more in various situations outside of team facilities, and social media posts showed the quarterback with multiple teammates.

First-time offenders are fined $14,650, while repeat violations lead to stricter punishments.

Schefter reported some around the league believe they were held to a different standard than the Packers when it came to enforcing COVID-19 protocols. One team executive pointed out that unvaccinated players were told to wear masks on the sidelines of preseason games, which Rodgers did not.

"That's B.S.," an executive said. "... What's going on in Green Bay, that's not what teams were told by the NFL. Our players wore masks all the time. We made our guys that weren't playing wear masks.

Rodgers made plenty more headlines during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday.

He said he was "in the crosshairs of the woke mob right now," explained he took medical advice from podcast host Joe Rogan, paraphrased Martin Luther King Jr. and suggested he has followed league protocols "to a T" outside of the rules saying he needed to wear masks at press conferences (h/t Jacob Lev of CNN).

Rodgers said that rule did not make sense to him.
