John Legend is one of six new Google Assistant voices

Listen to his melodious tones whenever you ask for the day's weather forecast.

At the annual I/O developers conference on Tuesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that users now have six additional options for their Assistant's voice, one of which is that of famed singer-songwriter John Legend. They'll be available for both mobile and the Google Home beginning later today.

The new voices arrive thanks to the company's work with WaveNet technology over the past year. First debuted in 2016, the WaveNet architecture is based on the same DeepMind AI that powered the AlphaGo project. Unlike other forms of text-to-speech technologies, WaveNet relies on large data sets of raw audio waveforms, rather than full words and speech fragments.
