Met Gala 2018: The Best Dressed Celebrities on the Red Carpet

The dress code on the invitation read (aptly and amusingly) “Sunday Best” for an evening known globally as the first Monday in May or the Met Gala. But what did that mean for the diverse, glittery crew of bold-face guests who strode the red carpet? The stylishly pious (gala cochair Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn) looked to Joan of Arc or classic cardinals for chain mail and divine discretion. Ethereal bodies opted for fluttery ruffles, crystals aplenty, and, in the case of Katy Perry, full-on Versace wings (heavenly!). The like-a-virgin ladies (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren; Alexa Chung in her own design) straddled the Madonna/whore divide with fabulosity and wit, with Madonna herself in Jean Paul Gaultier. And then there was Rihanna (in Margiela) wearing her version of a nun’s habit by Stephen Jones . . . a fashion miracle, no?
