Stimulus Check Memes, Jokes Explode As People Celebrate 'Stimmy' Hit

Many Americans are set to receive their $1,400 stimulus check today, and bank account holders are celebrating by sharing jokes about spending their "stimmy" on Twitter.

President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion relief package, on Thursday and many Americans were receiving their payments just days later. However, others have had to wait until today for the payment to be cleared by their banks.

NACHA (National Automated Clearing House Association) said that the payments will be cleared by no later than 9 a.m. local time as banks and credit unions are set to receive around 90 million stimulus payments from the IRS.

Some people have already received checks this morning and are joking about how they are going to spend their newfound wealth, like Twitter user @ordinary_jojo who said: "After that $1400 stimmy hit" and shared a scene from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when Harry tells the lady on the train selling candy that he Ron will "take the lot!"

Twitter user @zigzagswag said: "My bank account with the stimmy, tax return and paycheck" and shared a GIF of Thanos completing the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity War.

However, some impatient Twitter users are joking about waiting on their payment as soon as it hit midnight on March 17, though the payment will likely arrive in just a few hours.

Chinedu said: "It's the 17th. Where is my stimmy Wells Fargo?" and attached a GIF of the Confused Travolta meme imposed onto an image of a Wells Fargo building.

Twitter user @Slay Babe said: "Opening my banking app at 12:00 to see the stimmy hit, but it didn't so," and shared images from Spongebob Squarepants of Fred entering the Krusty Krab and Squidward leaving.

Americans wanting to check the status of their stimulus check were invited to use the IRS' 'Get My Payment' tool, but the process wasn't as straightforward as it should have been for many people.

There are reports of some people seeing the wrong bank account number on the IRS website, and if this happens, the IRS said that the bank will return the money and the IRS will then mail a check to the address it has on file.

Other people joked about how the 'Get My Payment' tool told them the payment wasn't available, or how they had no way of knowing when they would receive the money.

However, this message also appeared for people who weren't eligible for the stimulus check, though there was no way of knowing that this was the case.
