Baylor does a number on Winthrop: 108

Baylor’s women’s basketball team put on a record-setting performance Thursday in the No. 3 Bears’ 140-32 victory over Winthrop.

The 108-point margin of victory is the largest in women's Division I history. The record was 102 points, by Grambling over Jarvis Christian, 139-37, on Feb. 12, 1986.

The largest margin of victory between two Division I women’s teams had been 101 points: Louisiana Tech 126, Texas-Pan America 25 on Feb. 18, 1989.

Baylor’s 140 points were the second-most points in a women’s Division I game. Long Beach State set the record in a 149-69 win over San José State on Feb. 16, 1987.

The Bears entered the game leading Division I teams with a plus-39.8 difference in points per game. Thursday’s result pushed that to plus-45.5 points per game.

A one-sided game might have been expected. Winthrop's sports information department said that of the 11 players expected to suit up for Thursday's game, six are true freshmen and another is a sophomore transfer.

Statistical notes

Baylor was 11-of-20 on 3-pointers, outscoring the Eagles of Rock Hill, South Carolina, on 3-pointers alone.

The Bears could have won with the point total from just one of their first three quarters, scoring at least 34 points in each of them. In the fourth, Baylor outscored Winthrop 29-0.

Baylor set a school record with 17 blocked shots. The Bears blocked nearly twice as many shots as Winthrop made (nine).

The Bears also set school records in rebounds (75), assists (42) and field goals (58).

Khadijiah Cave led all scorers with a career-high 25 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the field.

Beatrice Mompremier had 17 rebounds -- and she played less than half the game after coming off the bench.

For what it’s worth, every player who got on the court for Baylor played between 13 and 21 minutes.
