Tonga's shirtless flag bearer just qualified for the Winter Olympics

You may not remember Pita Taufatofua’s name, but you’ll likely remember the viral moment from the 2016 Olympics opening ceremony when he carried the flag of Tonga while shirtless and extensively oiled-up.

Taufatofua competed in taekwondo in Rio de Janeiro, but he’s more recently switched to cross-country in an attempt to become the second Tongan Winter Olympian.

Taufatofua had until January 21st to qualify for the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, and he has been scrambling across Europe to compete in a qualification race.  Earlier this week, Taufatofua missed his flight from Turkey to Croatia, which caused him to miss an opportunity to qualify.

In his very last opportunity before the deadline, Taufatofua qualified Saturday at a race in Iceland.
