“I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour,” Victoria Beckham said during a preview of her autumn/winter 2018 collection today, which shows in New York on Sunday morning.

She broke the internet when, last week, she posted several pictures of all four Spice Girls reunited at Geri Horner’s house. “It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.” What are the plans, then? “There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming,” Beckham explained, glancing over at her collection lined up on rails for tomorrow’s presentation. “But this is what I do.”

As the snapshots of Beckham and Horner with Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton made the rounds online, fans were quick to hope for a reunion. If music isn’t on the cards, could a sequel to *Spice World *be in the works? “Is that what you really, really want?” Beckham quipped. “I remember that movie. I was so upset when they made me wear that tight little army dress. And Harper Beckham, who’s only watched Spice World once, says, ‘Mummy, I love that bit when everyone’s in the really cool clothes and you’re in the tight little army dress!’” In times of second-wave feminism and the empowering waves created by the Time’s Up movement, the Girl Power flag flown by the Spice Girls in the late 1990s is as relevant as ever.

“It’s a positive thing,” Beckham said of the reunion, however it may materialise down the line. “You know, there’s so much bad stuff going on, and the Spice Girls were about fun and celebrating individuality. I think there’s so much that the brand can do, and it’s such a positive message for young kids. What does that look like in the future? It’s not me in a cat-suit,” the designer noted with a wink. First, though, Beckham is celebrating the tenth anniversary this year of the brand which she broke the barriers of the fashion industry and proved that a Spice Girl could be a bona fide designer, too. Next season she relocates to London Fashion Week for a one-off celebration, which will no doubt see some original Girl Power on the front row.
