Amy Schumer picks up 1,000% pay rise for followup to Trainwreck

US comic can look forward to a staggering payday after the Judd Apatow-directed comedy catapulted her to Hollywood stardom

Amy Schumer will receive a fee of between $4m and $5m to shoot her next film, a pay rise of more than 1,000%, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Schumer received just $300,000 for her work on self-penned hit comedy Trainwreck. But the film’s success at the US box office, where it scored $110m on a budget of just $35m in July, has catapulted her into the top echelon of Hollywood big-screen comics.

Her next venture will be a comedy with 50/50 director Jonathan Levine about a mother and daughter who are kidnapped while holidaying in Brazil, with Schumer set to play the younger woman. The ribald comic and her sister, Kim Caramele, who doubles as the actor’s creative partner, are currently polishing a script by The Heat’s Katie Dippold. Schumer also has a $1.2m option for a new film at Trainwreck studio Universal, details of which have not yet emerged.

It’s been a whirlwind few months for the 34-year-old, who has found herself courted by Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence for a comedy in which the pair will start as sisters, as well as becoming a public advocate for more US gun control in the wake of the fatal shootings at a screening of Trainwreck at a cinema in Lafayette, Louisiana, in August.

The Judd Apatow-directed comedy, which starred Schumer as a magazine writer with a penchant for drunken promiscuity, followed earlier success for her television show Inside Amy Schumer. Drawing on its star’s own experiences living an out-of-control lifestyle, the film garnered strong reviews from critics on both sides of the Atlantic.
